Council members say administration's post-election actions reek of revenge

Even though the contentious June 4 primary election for county executive is in the past, City Hall remains the battleground of a civil war between Mayor Glenn Cunningham's administration and the City Council.

Back and forth arguments between the legislative and executive branches reached a high point at the council meeting Wednesday when the City Council passed a resolution 7-2 that would form a committee to investigate recent actions taken by the mayor's office. Council President L. Harvey Smith and Ward F Councilwoman Viola Richardson dissented.

The resolution charges that certain municipal officials have spent city funds for partisan purposes, harassed employees because of political affiliation, and have used city ordinances selectively to punish those who oppose the administration.
