Changing their minds on mayor Administration responds to allegations of politicking, some council people retract accusations Prescott Tolk, Jersey City Reporter, June 23, 2002 Addressing each allegation of political retribution one by one, Cunningham said that his motives for various recent decisions amount to nothing more than good government. The week before, the council had accused Cunningham of lashing out against supporters of county executive-elect Tom DeGise, and formed an ad hoc committee to investigate those claims. DeGise won the Democratic nomination for county executive earlier this month, beating out a man supported by Cunningham. During the council meeting, Councilmen Steve Lipski, William Gaughan, and Peter Brennan said they were personally affected by the mayor's actions.
