JERSEY CITY - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham and The Jersey City Employment and
Training Center will host a job fair for all displaced Trustcompany Bank employees from
5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 121-125 Newark Avenue.
Mayor Cunningham decided to hold the job fair after learning that the corporate merger
of North Fork Bank and The Trustcompany would result in the loss of approximately 400
jobs in Jersey City, with more than half of the displaced employees being Jersey City
residents.
It is the first time such an event has been hosted by the Mayor's Office.
"The dedicated and hard-working employees of The Trustcompany deserve an
opportunity to find employment right here in Jersey City and I am honored to be able to
help them," Mayor Cunningham said.
The Trustcompany Bank of New Jersey has been a Jersey City institution for more than
100 years and was one of the first and largest businesses to move into the city.////
