May 22, 2004 West New York Reform Democratic Committee “The issues of having an elected board vs. the appointed board, and the latest accusation by the mayor against our committee of voter intimidation, had to be address at the commissioner meeting, yet the mayor choose to be absent without an excuse” – declared committee chairman William Parkison. The West New York Reform Democratic Committee is currently circulating a petition for an elected board of education. Parkison added, “The Right to vote in our democratic society is a sacred right which resident of any town should not give up. The right to choose the board of education by the electorate is important to our children’s future! A board made up of non-independent thinkers, padded payrolls, waste of money and the massive movement of school administrators (Principals) in our school system, with children having not stability, only hurts the future of our society.” “We wanted as residents, to address our mayor on these issues but he was a no show. If our mayor is too busy with two jobs as an Assemblyman and Mayor, maybe he should give up one and concentrate on the one he feels he does best.” Jose Munoz, co-founder of the West New York Reform Democratic Committee and known activist for reforms in West New York declared: “The Mayor absence from the Commissioner meeting only shows how unimportant the town issues are on his agenda.” “An elected board of education will grant parents and West New York citizens the oportunity to choose professionals who answer to the people not to the mayor. I came from Cuba to this great country looking for democracy, not dictatorship.” “The West New York Reform Democratic Committee will continue to voice the concerns of our town and fight to bring reforms and ethic to our local government.” ###
