Urban Times News Call 201-451-4131 to have the Urban Times News delivered to a commercial business. By Arnold W. Stovell In the midst of attention appropriately focused on the fallout from the honorable Glenn D. Cunningham's death, the struggle of the Reverend. Edward Allen to gain inclusion on the November ballot continues. The Reverend Allen, once a candidate for the Congressional seat in the 10th voting district under the Reform Democratic ticket, was successfully removed from the primary ballot by the Menendez political machine. Accepting the consequences of their scrutiny, the Reverend continued his campaign, following election procedures diligently, only to have his application forestalled by election officials who now claim his independent candidacy is prohibited by his registration as a Democrat. Previously, after controversy over his primary applications were explained by officials, the Reverend was assured by Board of Election representatives that his submission as a candidate on the Independent ticket was a viable alternative. His original application was denied due to misunderstandings about where registration officers should live. With these petitions the Reverend addressed those issues and more, fully prepared to participate in the electoral process. "In April they threw out my petitions and now they have denied my new ones. Our petitions were rebuffed with Board of Election officials already having a prepared legal challenge. Menendez placed the Board of Elections director in office. He is still using fascist tactics to work below the radar screen. They may dismiss the low turnout in the primaries, but people of all nationalities do not appreciate the kind of person he is. He is a person obsessed with power. He wants to rise to higher political position and he is eyeing the seat of Senator Charles Lautenberg. But he refuses to recognize that without the districts of Jersey City and Newark, he cannot win the Lautenberg seat. His corrupt hold on the Hudson County Democratic organization and his use of scare tactics will not be rewarded by the people of the 10th congressional district. People see that he is a dangerous man who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants." The Reverend does not seem deterred by this setback but in fact more resolute and determined than ever. "What will we do next? We will seek a reversal of this decision in State Supreme Court. While Menendez operates like Castro, ensuring an election where no competition is the best competition, we will show him why we say no to Castro and no to Menendez. This is not communist Cuba, this is America. There will be competition. We will investigate further and our lawyers will seek inclusion in the November elections based on the allowable and lawful remedies." At press time, Reverend Allen forces were still conferring as to the legitimacy of the Board of Elections claims, though continued legal action is forseen.
