Looking over the constant barrage of mindless buffoonery exhibited at this blog by one Tom Gaynor has put me in a reflective mood. The world is full of fools who can hunt and peck on a computer keyboard, so there is no surprise there. The shock and awe lies in the fact that Bret Schundler took the Gaynors seriously. Nancy Gaynor was on the Council for the Journal Square ward. Her son was awarded a plum job. Even after managing to totally alienate the voters and get the boot in 97, Schundler kept Gaynor on in a fifth wheel office -- at great expense to the taxpayers and no benefit derived therefrom. How could this tag team of clowns manage to fool Schundler into thinking that they were some sort of political gold when all objective touchstones showed exactly the opposite? And it don't stop at the Gaynors. There’s a whole zoo of these baboons in Jersey City. The next in line for consideration is the Macchis. The Macchis was in with Dr. Paul T. Jordan and was involved in the biggest political implosion that this city has ever seen, Paul Jordan's crash and burn. After that you'd think that all would know that the Macchis are political toxic waste. Armed only with silly smiles, stupid jokes and a storefront from which to hand out free hotdogs to the truly useless, the Macchis have got themselves cherished even after proving time and again that they don't sway a single vote. Catherine Macchi p1ssed off the voters of B as bad as Nancy Gaynor and got the same heaveho. Schundler awards Catherine Macchi just the same for no good purpose to himself or to the paying public. ANd Bill Macchi is the biggest joke, after losing lock stock and barrell to Bobbj J. One would assume that brain trust Schundler would sever all ties to Macchis. No Schundler awards Bill Macchis clown act with big jobs. The son gets a job too at Athletics like this is a Jersey City royal family to be cherished and pampered. Paul Jordan was some set of work too. Easing in on the slip of the bannana peal of JVK, Dr. Jordan thought himself as a pretty hot property. Couldn't even manage to remember the last name of Ted Kennedy at a Journal Square rally calling him Kenny by mistake, a real good way to work yourself into the good graces at a national level. And then there was Neil Sheridan, Nancy Gaynor's boss at the missing in action office. Neil Sheridan was working from his apartment for most of the 97 on Schundler term. Working from hisapartment was the nice way of saying getting over a hangover. The yuppie puppie loses the battleship for Jersey City and walks the first and last 100 yards of the St Patricks day parade. Does this get a swift rap on the knuckles from above, no the response is the elevation to Deputy Mayor. And of coarse there was Timothy tip toe through the tulips Sheridan, the Schundler's babysitter. Awarded the important and politcally sensitive mayors action bureau. He was lucky to have Maureen Corcoran there to hold up his end. And then there was Lonnie Sobel. He was supposed to put Timothy Sheridan in the parking authority for Schundler but saw the light and did Glenn's bidding. Lonnie wanders the globe looking for floosies in every nook and cranny yet remains on the parking authorty. Here's a question what has the guy got going for him. Schundler thought him useful. Glenn owed him, I guess. Lonnies partner John is up the ladder at the PA. And then there's that fence straddling surivor Maggie Doyle. Never controlled a single vote. In my bourbon travelling days I'd wake up and find that I had enjoyed the company of a local resident and it would be it was great here's cab fare home. But Maggie Doyle goes from administration to administration like the empress of china. And that brings to mind Bobby Js cherished scrapbook that was taken from Paul Byrne. When that’s in the public domain all hell will surely break lose. There was Fargo. Was supposed to back Brian Oreilly stop the Odea juggernaut but Nick either slipped up or saw the light. God only knows what Fargo brought to 280 Grove but Schundler thought he was worth 100 grand a year. As Schundler is getting ready to go for gov, Nick takes the buyout. Schundler actually was going to rehire Fargo until the state of NJ put the kibosh on the fast one. This one is such a curveball there’s got to be more than meets the eye. They seem to work often as husband and wife teams. In addition to the already reviewed Gaynors and Macchis, there also was the Accursos. Mary worked like a bee and the credit has got to be given to her. Though the oldtimers will cringe at my talking ill of the dead, truth to be told Richie went beyond useless to the point of ridiculous. All day he would stare at the wall or chat on the phone. Him and Maggie weren’t too bad at selling tickets, but not enough to receive absolution in my book. Also still hanging in there are the Andersons. Wayne is in a category all by his lonesome self, for he is an import. I thought that after the sorry debacle of the jazz man going poof, Wayne would be on the road again. No, in the best tradtion of big business, Bret gives Wayne a promotion to Siberia. His wife is carrying on the tradition in a big way. Runs for office and don’t fill a thimble with votes. Are we talking about excommunication here, No Glenn shows he’s got a wrong a set of instincts as Bret and rewards the bunch. Wayne gets brought back into the fray to clean up Journal Square and you can easily check what a bonny job he has done. But don’t head to the fountain unless you is extraordinarily broadminded – if you get my dirft. I don’t know how she does it by Mrs. Anderson is hard at work selling both to here and to 280 Grove. Change to administration be damned there. I was in Newark and they is laughing themselves silly over the disgraceful clutter of bad signage, as well they should given the good job that Newark accomplished in that regards. As Newark is quick to point out, doesn’t anybody in Jersey City know that red is only to be used in a sign for an emergency facility and that is generally a hospital. Even retired I still don’t need glasses and certainly not of the rosy color. The point isn’t that the jabberers are jabberers but that they are useless. They don’t buy votes they don’t bring in revenue. We’ve got our own sideshow of freaks, but they all help to pull the wagon. If you want to enjoy local flavor at a hot dog stand, don’t tour the sabrett factory. And just to show that I don’t have tunnel vision I’ll also add the winners from the top of the hill, the inbetweeners Degsie and Kennelly. Kennyelly is shown the door at the Jersey Journal. From that sad state of affairs Degise puts Jim in charge of his campaing. Kennelly is one of the architects of a sad loss. Is the guy sent to the bowery. No degise keeps him as great communicator and policy wizard. Shows you how easy it is to con a con. And degise takes all. Degise manages to fool many particularly hardened to the core individuals that he was loyal to the core with his support of Shcundler. That all other doors was closed is conveniently forgotten. Truth be told Degises talent is not loyaltly btu having more faces than eve. When he was running for mayor he was convincing the state party that he was backing McGreevey while at the same time getting the nod from Schundler for promsing to just go through the motions. And even after the voters give him the thumbs down, Degise tries and plays it cute by showing up with Schundler, but not endorsing him. I’m trying to figure if Degise slipped off the table or if he had become a great actor for he sometimes acts like he is the boss to the point of laying the law down to Schundler. I only know from someone who hears one end of the conversation and got no way of knowing if this is taken seriously by anybody. After Alcalde Rudy everybody knows who the boss is. Another special category has to be Nancy Harrigan. Not bad as an organizer. Still tries to give the impression that she lives in Jersey City. Kiboshed Degise but didn’t seem to last to long with Cunningham. Hubby gone from his job on top of it. I can’t see that one straight.
