FOR RELEASE: Immediate CONTACT: Cara Noel TRENTON - A measure sponsored by Senator Joseph V. Doria that would ensure that the state is able to maintain and improve state programs to benefit the State's children was approved today by the Senate. "This budget appropriates millions of dollars to help revamp DYFS and provide more funding for the state's public and non-public schools," said Senator Doria, D-Hudson. "New Jersey's children really are its future. This budget would be incomplete without including the dollars to ensure that the state's children receive the proper physical, emotional and educational care." Senator Doria's measure, S-1780, would permit the State to securitize all revenues raised from the unsafe driver tax. Appropriated funds would be dedicated to fund DYFS reform, numerous improvements in the state's schools, including more money for non-Abbott districts, which are often ignored when doling out state education funding. "This budget is a good budget in that it provides more funds to make sure that we are better able to help the State's children," said Senator Doria. "I believe that we are on the right track to making New Jersey an even better place for children, and all citizens statewide." The measure was approved in both Legislative houses and now heads to the Governor's desk. ###
