. . . In 1986 he was elected mayor of Union City, the first Hispanic to ever hold that post. While mayor he also served in the New Jersey State Assembly, followed by the State Senate. You would think, with his own Catholic upbringing and his constant Catholic culture, and the fact that Catholics number one half of his total constituency, that he would have gone against the grain of his party and seek to do what is right when he was elected to the United States House for the 13th District in 1992. But noooo! Because of his party affiliation he was even more willing to turn his back on God than his fellow Democrats. What price politics?! . . .
