FOR RELEASE: Immediate CONTACT: Cara Noel DORIA SECURES INCREASED BUDGET FUNDING FOR HUDSON COUNTY TRENTON - Senator Joseph V. Doria praised fellow state Democrats for their passage of the Fiscal Year 2005 budget, which includes increased funding for schools, charity care programs, senior citizens and working families. "This budget truly benefits Hudson County by earmarking funds for its children, seniors and medically uninsured," said Senator Doria, D-Hudson, who is also mayor of Bayonne. "The Democrats fought for this budget because we believe in helping people, and what is more important than education, affordable housing and medical care?" Included in the budget is an increase of nearly $5 million in Charity Care funding for Hudson's hospitals, which includes a total of $3.1 million Bayonne Medical Center and $ 1.8 million for Jersey City Medical Center, which will allow them to provide more care for uninsured patients. Also included in the budget is $1.6 million for the Jersey City Armory to expand and develop more recreation programs for area youth. The budget also includes increased funding for Abbott schools and an increase of $655,752 for Bayonne City, a low income non-Abbott school district. New Jersey City University is also scheduled to receive $620,000 for high enrollment growth adjustment. The budget also allocates funding for the Homestead rebate program for senior citizens, which awards up to $1200 to residents over the age of 65. Also included is property tax relief of up to $800 for New Jersey's middle class residents. "This funding is going toward the people who really need it," said Senator Doria. "It is going to fund schools, hospitals and even provide some relief for seniors and working families. These people fight to get us elected and work to help keep us in office because they know we will represent their best interests. If we don't fight for them, who will?" ###
