Today at a noontime rally, in front of a crowd of four hundred, L. Harvey Smith announced that he is running for Mayor in the special election this November.

Every letter of the alphabet of the peoples that spells out Jersey City was strongly represented. The Downtown artists community was highly visible, along with the Middle Eastern, African-American and all other residents. Quite a few disciplined political infantry, obvious veterans of Jersey City campaigns, also were there.

Acting Mayor Smith was warmly welcomed by those in attendance. After the speech, L. Harvey Smith walked among the crowd shaking hands and having his picture taken with many of his supporters.

GET NJ will post the text of L. Harvey's Smith's speech shortly. Video of the speech will follow within the next several hours.
