BOSTON - In front of what was likely the largest audience he's ever faced, U.S. Rep. Robert Menendez of Hoboken stepped into the national spotlight last night at the Democratic National Convention, delivering a prime-time speech focused almost entirely on foreign affairs, criticizing the Bush Administration for the war in Iraq and promising that Sen. John Kerry would strengthen global alliances.

Menendez, who gave part of his roughly 10-minute speech in Spanish, spoke in impassioned tones, at times raising his voice and shaking his fist, and promoting Kerry as the presidential candidate who would improve America's standing in the world.
