In your original post you posited the possibility (sorry, I couldn't stop myself) that Menendez can "pocket all that campaign cash he's been hoarding for years." Though I understand a million dollars in campaign cash was part of the Guarini (what a set of shoes to fill) retirement package, I don't think that is legally in the cards now. I do believe that Menendez can give away the money to whatever charities and/or candidates that he wants. Might it be permissable to set up a non-profit, fund it with campaign $$$, and then pay yourself and friends big buck salaries? : Menendez was nothing more than political kindling for the convention. Just start the fire with useless scraps and the real blaze gets going with the real fuel like Gore, Clinton and Carter. Menendez is nothing in this party any longer. He has repeatedly proven his inability to even influence the political happenings in Hudson, much less Trenton or Washington. He is about as Hispanic as Howdey Doodie and getting 80% in a Hudson Primary (70% bought and paid for) against a no-name opponenet is really no accomplishment. Menendez is going nowhere fast. If he really thought he had the support of the State Dems, he would have gone after the Torch's seat. But he knows he's lucky to even hold a political office. And we'll never forget his loyalty to those around him and those who brought him up through the ranks. Billy Musto never forgots. Menendez is a self-serving useless POS who will find himself on the scrap heap of Hudson Politics in short order. And not a minute too soon. : : Yeh, you're right . Menendez really got screwed. They stuck on the same night that Gore, Carter and both Clintons spoke. And his role as the highest ranking Hispanic member of Kerry's campaign will really hasten his demise. All this coming after he squeaked by the primary with over 80% of the vote. Lou Manzo on the other hand is a rising star. Now making his 4th run for mayor despite never having made a run-off. But he figures to do much better with a convicted felon as his chief of staff and his brother(and fiancier) also copping to a felony as he continues to cooperate with the U.S. attorney. His campaign manager is telling people he is only lending his name and no effort and the Cunningham people can't stand him. Your logic is impeccable.
