JERSEY CITY Willie Flood, candidate for Hudson County clerk, will
announce the totals for a successful voter registration drive, which will
include the registration of a 98-year-old resident, during a 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 news conference at the Berry Gardens apartments, 92 Danforth Avenue.
Flood, a member of the Democrats for Hudson County slate, seeks to make
the county clerk position a truly functioning office that takes a more active
role the community.
"The clerks position is one that should not be a no-show job," Flood said.
"Once I'm elected there will be a number programs implemented out of that
office, including county-wide voter registrations."
The Democrats for Hudson county slate is anchored by Jersey City Mayor
Glenn D. Cunningham, who is seeking a Senate seat in the31st District.
Fellow slate-mates Lou Manzo and Bayonne Councilman Anthony
Chiappone are both seeking Assemblyman seats in the 31st District while
Melba Walsh, of Bayonne, rounds out the ticket in her bid to become the
first woman to hold the office of Hudson County Executive.
“Every vote counts," Flood said. "Many of our seniors have been. the most
productive members of our society. However, during an era when many had
to work two-to-three jobs just to support their families, they might have
viewed voting as not as important as getting to work on time that day. I think
it's empowering and it can give them a sense of personal fulfillment to
become a part of this crucial process." ////
