<font face=arial size=2>: Hudson County Squabling Is Just Shocking, Shocking</font> <font face=arial size=2>: New York Times</font> <font face=arial size=2>: 03/17/02</font> <font face=arial size=2>: Barbara Fitzgerald</font> <font face=arial size=2>: The political scuffle between Representative Bob Menendez and Mayor Glenn Cunningham of Jersey City, two Democrats, has erupted into a battle of the brooms.</font> <font face=arial size=2>: Mr. Menendez was recently seen sweeping the sidewalk in front of his office, hinting that the Mayor Cunningham should spend more time keeping the city clean that engaging in political battles for the control of the county.</font> <font face=arial size=2>: Mr. Cunningham replied that he would like to sweep Mr. Menendez back to Washington, where he belongs tending to the business of Congress, rather than Jersey City.</font> <font face=arial size=2>: The two, who were once political allies, have been feuding over a variety of issues, the most prominent being the choice of who should succeed Robert Janiszewski as executive of Hudson County.</font> <font face=arial size=2>: If the two can't come to terms, Mr. Cunningham has said he expects a Democrat to challenge Mr. Menendez for his Congressional seat. But Mr. Menendez, the county Democratic chairman, doesn't seem too worried, adding that he would still like to work with Mr. Cunningham.</font>
