It was Jersey City Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham, a career lawman, and City Council President L. Harvey Smith, a career educator, arguing over who has the better experience to become a state senator. Meanwhile, Bayonne attorney Vincent Militello contended that neither of his two opponents has the time.

That was the gist of the first, and perhaps only, joint appearance by the three candidates for the Democratic nomination for Senate in the 31st District. They were on NJN's "On the Record."
