Businesses continue to leave due to the exorbitant property taxes and ailing economy in the area. The expansion of the Light Rail has begun to bring some shoppers back into the region. But, as Militello explained, “More needs to be done to market the business opportunities and job possibilities in Jersey City and Bayonne not enough has been done.” Militello’s comments are timely as job insecurity and economic woes continue to plague the minds of Hudson County residents by overwhelming numbers as reported in The Jersey Journal yesterday. The issue of the failing economy continues to remain at the forefront of voters’ concerns. “Government and industry should band together to bring economic development to this district. Their cooperation is vital to the success of our community. There are far too many areas in Bayonne and Jersey City that are receiving scant attention from our leaders,” Militello told voters. “Job creation must be a priority for the government,” Militello said as he left voters pensive at a recent campaign stop.
