Bayonne Laura Jones kept with her politics and food theme on Sunday night’s edition of Diner Politics by comparing the three candidates for the 31st District’s State Senate seat to food. Calling Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham a “bagel” and Councilman Harvey Smith a “muffin,” Jones seems to have recognized that one man has holes in his approach to government while the other is too light and fluffy to weigh in on the difficult problems facing legislators in Trenton. But she called Militello the “sugar” the sweet ingredient that efficiently gets the job done. During the show, which was organized to get the voters of Jersey City and Bayonne acquainted with the three candidates in the upcoming Democratic primary for state senate, Militello showed his grasp of the issues facing lawmakers as he outlined plans for economic development, property tax reform, auto insurance reform and educational issues. Militello talked about the need for a man of action in this district and his background in the Marine Corps and as an Assistant Prosecutor make him well qualified for “action without a fear of personal consequences,” unlike his opponents. Unlike his opponents, Militello offers a fresh voice from the “politics as usual” in Hudson County. Unencumbered by ties to the old-school establishment, Militello is not involved in the mud-slinging and instead has campaigned as a candidate who can affect change in Trenton on key issues that trouble the voters of Bayonne and Jersey City. His campaign also highlights his ability to work with everyone. Today, Militello said, “I have enjoyed campaigning against Mayor Cunningham and Councilman Smith and look forward to working with them after I am elected. We are all men who care deeply about our communities. The mayor and councilman have a lot of difficult work ahead of them in Jersey City, and as their state senator I will do everything I can to help them. After June 3, 2003, we are all on the same team.” For more information about the Militello for State Senate campaign, contact Mircalla Wozniak or Katie Dowd at (201) 339-8020 or stop by the campaign headquarters at 536 Broadway in Bayonne.
