THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING That would be the sound and fury of the so-called debate proposed by Uncle Harvey and running mate Fat Joe Doria, and to be hosted by the Bayonne NAACP. Greg Roberts is the head of the Bayonne Chapter of the NAACP, and also happens to be head of the Planning Board. Talk about no-brainers! Both of these guys are no-brainers. All of these guys are no-brainers. We would like to know how to have a debate with one candidate. They wanted to have a debate, only they were not going to invite anybody else! Would you pay to see a boxing match with just one fighter? What about a debate with only one candidate? Not interested? We did not think that you would be. What fun would that be? It would be the sound of one hand clapping, something that Uncle Harvey and Fat Joe should get accustomed to. What a horrible thought we just had. What if they lost? Who would they blame? Who would they accuse of foul play? Word got back to the “other candidate,” Glenn Cunningham. Remember him? He is the Mayor of Jersey City. Cunningham, understandably perplexed, called the Bayonne NAACP and asked how they proposed to have a one-sided debate. Cunningham asked why he was not invited. NAACP representatives told Cunningham graciously that if he wanted to, he could come. Cunningham said thanks, but no thanks, he would not come as he was not invited. Cunningham did also say that he would call the National office of the NAACP and speak to National Chairman Kweisi Mfume just to let him know what the Bayonne chapter was planning. Cunningham has a very close relationship with the National Leadership. Needless to say, the “debate,” was canceled. With that, there was a round of applause, but nobody could hear it.
