Ignoring for the moment the possibility of ossification of the brain from trying to keep up with Bill Gaughan, where does the artifcial stupidity end and the honest to goodness god-given idiocy begin? All corners say that Poreda's only asset was Paul Byrne's influence. That gone, Poreda is flushed. You set it up as if your only choice for computer and telephone support was Poreda or Hindsight. They both should be thrown out of the building. The Metro region is just chock full of tech support companies. Also, why are you putting the phone and pc support together into a very odd combo. Do you think the world is stupid and if not xxactly what was affecting your mind (what they sell to me at the dunkin donuts don't have that effect) when you dribble on about the wonderful effect on local government from your interacting with different vendors.(Oh, by the way, does that translate into BG and you hosing the poor saps down for free drinks?) Who cares how many vendors you waste the time of if the Degise is going to be Officer Volpe to the Hudson County tax payer and stick to them but good. The fix was in with the Menendez letter and probably the only question was how much over 500k and how much under a million the overcharge was to be. The real sad story is that the outfit is not even up to the task so Hudson COunty is paying through the nose for an incompetent that can't throw the ball. ANd do you like think that you is talking to a bunch of peasants as you go on about how hard it is to set up voice mail and a web site. Every little dentist office has a right up there with the best of them voice mail and web site. If you and BG can't swing it then just keep sitting in the bar and let somebody in to do the job. : Here's your education: : The only bias was in that disgraceful, unbylined Jersey Journal story today. I have : just let Augie Torres have it over that piece of garbage story. Our administration : was never contacted to respond. : But here's a few things to chew on before one of you undoubtedly follows up : by attacking Tom or me: : Poreda, a business associate of Paul Byrne, has a lot of balls to say something like, "I : thought Janizewski left," in that story. No, you thought he was still here, pal, that's : why you're so aggravated. : The telecom contract was a NO-BID until Tom DeGise made it a competitive : contracting process contract. The no bid was under Janiszewski and Byrne. : The competitive contracting process was created by the STATE to allow localities to : use competition to find the best services through competition. It is different than : the RFP process because rock bottom price for certain key services is not always the : best choice. But under this process, competition is still possible and can help : localities do a better job of servicing their needs. : Just like individuals can choose between a $19.95 a month 56K dial-up internet : provider and a $39.95 a month high speed cable modem internet provider, so too : the County has to choose based on its needs, not just the final price. : Now if an individual is going to send a few emails a month, $19.95 dial-up makes : sense. But if they run a home business doing graphic design or editing, they might : opt for the high speed service because the price differential is worth it. : We have an complex, older telcom infrastructure that Hindsight has done an : outstanding job servicing. The same good government champions who think Paul : Byrne's business associate should get this contract in the name of the taxpayer : probably think we should just upgrade our whole telecom operation to make it a : better fit for Desktop's (Poreda's) expertise. That would cost the taxpayers a fortune : -- we're not doing it. : This isn't a contract for rock salt. It's a complex, tough job, and having 10 out of 55 : invitees come in to meet with us about it is not a poor result. : Poreda was not eliminated because he was "invalidated on technicalities." : Poreda failed to submit the most basic company information and provide the most : basic state business form and was warned about this last year. He still did it this : year. These kind of ommissions would have sunk a minority painting contractor : from quoting on a $2,000 seal painting job, let alone a firm competing for a crucial : multi-year county-wide telecom contract. They included: : No New Jersey Business Registration Certificate : No three years of financial statements containing documents and information : consistent with the specifications(balance sheets, income and expense statements : and retained earnings) : No signed declaration of expertise. : No past client contact phone numbers or fax numbers. : Inconsistency between financial statements and personel matrix : Federal Tax ID number not supplied or incomplete. : Why does this matter? Well our website, which some the lameos here like to attack : for having old info on it, has been a nightmare to manage. Why? Because it has to be : housed on our own servers and serviced remotely--adding weeks and months to : changes and for long time leaving it vulnerable to hacking because it wasn't built : behind the county firewall. Why? Because the last website the County had, under a : previous administration, was housed on servers not on county property so when the : fly-bynight company that hosted them went belly up, by-by went county website. : Financials matter. Basic state documents that a mom and pop store have to have : matter. Poreda wants to paint his incompetence as victimization. It's a joke. : And of course no post about this would be complete without the "Geoff Perselay : Controls the Universe Angle" right? : Look, Tom DeGise and Perselay have no significant personal relationship and : Perselay gives to a host of county parties and pacs around the state, little of it goes : to Tom DeGise. Check our nj elect or email me and I'll send you Tom's elec : statements. Perselay was against us in the 2001 mayoral. He has played in one or : two golfing events that Tom has been invited to. That's it. : What about Abe Antun? Abe Antun is honest. End of story. If you want to attack : from that angle, you've got more balls than Poreda. Abe Antun ran for : Commissioner in Union City in 1996 and couldn't tell guys looking for subsidized : apartments anything except, "well you have to get on the list" while out : campaigning. It was precisely that kind of Mr. Spock-like inhuman truth telling that : let Brian Stack kick his ass so easily and I'm happy to say to this day makes him a : valuable asset to Tom DeGise's administration. For god's sake he won't let more : than ten of us have voice mail in the whole county because it's too expensive! : Bill O'Dea is entitled to his opinion. But equating Tom DeGise to Bob Janiszewski as : Poreda did in that story is outrageous. : Byrne and Perselay can go on slashing at each other if they want, but one of their : flunkies doesn't have the right to slime Tom DeGise in the process. Neither do any : of the hacks who spend so much of their taxpayer funded time here. : : : GO right ahead and educate us all! What's the true story? Is another $800K over : the top bidder gonna get selected? Or is it like a mother goose? : : Bobby J's budget was a beached whale, bloated and rotten. There should be no : peekaboo tax. There should be a slash and burn of the deadwood followed by a tax : holiday. : : : "Degise continues corrupt Janiszewski cruelty to taxpayers! : : : Price $842,000 higher than the low bid OKed because of $28,0000 in : contributions?" : : : With this on your front page....don't you think you are showing just a LITTLE bias?
