Cunningham's view: Jersey City doing fine Jersey Journal By Jason Fink Midway through his four-year term as Jersey City mayor - and less than two weeks before a primary election for state Senate that pits him against Hudson County's powerful Democratic Party - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham declared the state of the city strong despite a bleak financial outlook on the state and national levels and the ever-present threat of terrorism. Lauding his administration's success in keeping property tax rates steady over two years, praising the police force for making thousands of drug arrests and pointing to several construction projects in various parts of the city as evidence of continued activity despite the economic downturn, Cunningham delivered his second state of the city address to a crowd of about 350 supporters and administration officials at New Jersey City University Wednesday night. Come July 1, Cunningham will have been in office two years. Reiterating his campaign theme of extending the prosperity of the waterfront to the rest of the city, Cunningham's hourlong speech focused heavily on quality-of-life issues and the city's financial condition.
