Lawyer says psychiatrist to back freeholder's claim she didn't know envelopes held bribes

NEWARK - A key witness in the federal corruption trial of Hudson County Freeholder Nidia Davila-Colon will back up Davila-Colon's contention that she never knew she was passing bribes to former Hudson County Executive Robert Janiszewski, her attorney said yesterday in an interview outside the federal courtroom where jury selection in the case began.

In an opening round surprise in what promises to be a politically explosive case featuring secretly taped audio and video recordings of public officials, Union City psychiatrist Dr. Oscar Sandoval will testify that Davila-Colon didn't know the envelopes she passed to Janiszewski contained the bribes, said her attorney, Peter Willis.
