: Mayor Glenn Cunningham of Jersey City is swimming against the tide in the political current - and he's asking the Legislature to end the ebb tide of indifference in Distressed Cities aid.

: Cunningham will know after Tuesday's primary whether he beats the Hudson County Democratic Organization to win the 31st District Senate seat of Sen. Joseph Charles of Jersey City, who is leaving in the hope of being named to a seat in state Superior Court. 

: L. Harvey Smith, Jersey City City Council president, is the HCDO choice in the Senate race, backed by Rep. Robert Menendez, D-Hoboken, and Gov. James E. McGreevey. Bayonne attorney Vincent Militello is on the ballot as an independent.
