Normally, less than one week before a contested primary, Hudson County pols would be firmly focused on the campaign.

But these days, they can't be blamed for casting eyes and ears toward Newark, where the trial of county Freeholder Nidia Davila-Colon is entering the "Ohmygoodness" phase with the testimony of former County Executive Robert Janiszewski.

Davila-Colon is accused of passing bribes from Dr. Oscar Sandoval, a psychiatrist who held county contracts, to Janiszewski. The former county executive is a government witness who made a deal for a lighter sentence after admitting taking bribes from Sandoval and others.
