Jersey City Guide

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It's that time of year again -- primary elections!
Unfortunately, as you probably know, there is no
primary election for the Green Party (or any other
"minor party") in New Jersey. But that doesn't mean
that we can't have an impact on the outcome of these
elections. To the contrary -- many of you are still
registered as Democrats or Republicans, or are
"unaffiliated" in terms of party declaration. If you
are unaffiliated or registered as independent, you
have the choice of voting in either party's primary,
but doing so will declare your affiliation with that
party -- which you can change after the election, if
you choose.

Historically, most races in Hudson County are
determined in the Democratic primary. The Democrats
know this, which is why the two big machines are
pouring their resources into this race and are happily
slinging the mud at each other. However, two
candidates running as Democrats stand out of the
crowd:

* For COUNTY EXECUTIVE, JAIME VAZQUEZ is running as an
"independent" Democratic candidate. He has been
involved in the peace and justice movement for years
and is a strong ally of many progressive causes.

* In the 31st District, VINCENT MILITELLO, JR., is
running as an independent candidate for STATE SENATE.
He has worked on behalf of the people of Hudson County
as Assistant Prosecutor and is not party of any party
"machine." I am convinced that he is an independent
who would work for the good of the people of Hudson
County, and not serve the big corporate patrons of the
Hudson County Democratic Organization.

As for the rest of the slate, I would encourage
everyone in the 31st District to write in PAMELA OLSEN
and myself (JONATHAN J. ORIOLE) for STATE ASSEMBLY --
on both the Democratic and Repulican tickets. In the
33rd District, please write in MARIA RIOS for STATE
ASSEMBLY on whichever party you vote. Yes, you have
every right to write in ANYONE YOU CHOOSE as a
candidate for the primary nomination.

Your support for the Green Party -- and supportive,
independent Democrats -- is greatly appreciated. I
look forward to hearing from you as our campaign for
the November General Election continues on its way.
Best wishes for a healthy and enjoyable summer!

In Peace and Pride,
Jonathan J. Oriole
Green Party Candidate for NJ State Assembly, 31st
District
