Jersey City—The Hudson County Democratic Organization stumbled badly, spending more than $1 Million to damage Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham and instead came away bloodied, losing resoundingly, with the fall of Bayonne Mayor Joe Doria, a 24-year veteran. In Jersey City, Mayor Glenn Cunningham trounced L. Harvey “Uncle Harvey” Smith for the 31st District Senate Seat in a walk. Anthony Chiappone, a freshman Bayonne Council member upset the incumbent Mayor Doria, an HCDO “made” guy, for 31st District Assembly seat that Doria has held 24 years. Former Freeholder Louis Manzo, with his power base on Jersey City’s West Side, convincingly took a second 31st District Assembly seat for the Cunningham ticket.
