Urban Times News September 17, 2004 - September 23, 2004 Inside County Lines Earl the Hat just will not stop. His most recent article in the Jersey Journal is attacking another African American. This time it's Oren Dabney's turn. He can't believe that Dabney demands a contract. How should he work? Should he go day to day with no protection just because he is African American? Earl the Ugly Duckling can't get over his days as a Jersey City police informant on the Black Panther Party. Who is next, Willie Flood? But she's a woman you say? That never stopped the Hat. Acting Mayor Harvey Smith has his family working overtime for this election. His wife was at a block association meeting in the Lafayette section of Jersey City, heckling Willie Flood on Monday night, and his son was at the Hudson County Clerk Office on Tuesday to watch Willie Flood file her petitions for the mayor race. I guess it's all in the family. I want to set the record straight about all the lies Acting Mayor L. Harvey Smith has been telling about his meeting with Willie Flood last Saturday. Smith did have the meeting, but the only persons who met were Smith and Flood, nobody else. Smith said that Flood asked for all the developers in the city. Nothing could be further from the truth. What Smith should do is check on his Deputy Mayor Ed Cheatum who has told developers that they must work with his team of developers from Hoboken. The US Attorney would like to know how Cheatum could have a business interest in these deals and still be on the payroll. Actor Mayor Smith has sent word to his Senior Citizen Director not to allow Willie Flood into any Senior Citizen complexes. This bunch of morons must know this is America, not Havana Cuba. Lou Manzo has brought charges upon Ron Bounocore over, where he lives, and that he has not distinguished himself in Jersey City long enough to run for mayor. Manzo should know. Bounocore was one of his chief advisors and fundraisers when Manzo ran against the late Glenn Cunningham. During that time, he made a deal for Bounocore to become Public Works Director. Seems like a long time ago now. When Willie Flood filed her petitions for Mayor on Tuesday, Jerry Healy was next in line to file. Healy brought everybody in county government with him, at least 12 - 13 people. I must say Bill Gaughan did look sober, but they reminded me of the White Citizens Council in 1940 Mississippi. It is rumored that Gerry McCann has an account at Siperstein's Paints with a note to close his account on November 3rd. The Ward F Hudson County Democratic Organization office has been closed. The Democratic Organization does not plan to campaign in the ward since their champion L. Harvey Smith decided to run for mayor himself and they can't support him. Poor Smith is left with city workers and no organization. Next week we'll examine why acting Mayor L. Harvey has the nickname Uncle Harvey. The Jersey City Employment Training board had a meeting that no one attended. Could it be that the rumors of the U.S. Attorney's office looking into its operation could have frightened a few of Acting Mayor Harvey Smith's appointees? Roger Jones, Donald Brown, and Ed Cheatum may have something in their backgrounds that the U.S. Attorney could find very interesting. Stay tuned. Gerry McCann is telling business people that say they support Lou Manzo not to worry about anything. Manzo will be in Trenton and he will be running the city again. That statement is sending cold chills up developers' backs.
