Tuesday's 31st District Democratic legislative primary was very much a tale of two cities.

Bayonne Mayor Joseph Doria did what he had to do in his city and Jersey City Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham did what he had to do in his city.

Turnouts in each was around 50 percent - an impressive total for a primary. Unfortunately for Doria and his Hudson County Democratic Organization running mates, almost two-thirds of the district's registered Democrats live in Jersey City. That's why Cunningham is the Democratic nominee for state Senate and Doria, the Hudson County Democratic Organization candidate, will be out after 24 years in the Assembly.
