Hello and thank you for being here. I, Mike Russo, am officially announcing my candidacy for mayor of the City of Hoboken. I stand here today prepared to revitalize our city. Next to me are three extraordinary individuals, Genevy Dimitrion, Manny Ortega and Brian Keller. These are the three people whom I have asked to run with me and to lead with me. I chose them not for their political prowess, but for their leadership qualities. They are true community leaders who posses character, courage and integrity. The four of us are committed to honest and effective government. We pledge to you, that we will be accessible to all residents of Hoboken and focus on your needs as well as our vision for the future. Please welcome my running mates. First, Ms. Genevy Dimitrion The strength of any community depends on smart; steadfast leadership. Hoboken must have officials who coordinate efforts in order to optimize success – determined officials who respect taxpayers and city finances. As a native of New Jersey and daughter of immigrants from Greece, I have seen what it takes to be an upstanding citizen. I know integrity when I see it – which is why I am standing here today. I am working alongside motivated people, so that I can respond to my community with visions of rejuvenation and renewal. The same renewal my parents experienced when they came to this country. Hoboken is my home. I can’t think of any better way to serve my community than to be here with Mike Russo. After 12 years of working in the financial industry, I believe I can be a tremendous help to the city of Hoboken. Currently, Hoboken is at the mercy of substandard politicians who find it more convenient to spend money and tax citizens than to propose proper, long-term financial initiatives. Hoboken’s finances are in a state of disarray and no taxpayer in this city should accept the fact that our budget is overspent by $7.9 million. This is not acceptable in my professional career and it should not be acceptable in the City of Hoboken. Soon I will be getting married. My fiancé and I are staying in Hoboken to raise a family. My goal is to work with Mike Russo to improve both our school system and our community for the future of my family and yours. Elect Mike Russo and together we can supply this city with the financial stability it so desperately needs. As a lifelong resident of Hoboken, I have seen a lot of changes – some good and some bad. I have known its triumphs and its troubles. Like every resident, I face the realities of this city each day. For thirty years, my family has been a part of Hoboken’s growth and diversity. As Cuban-Americans, they offer strong diversity to the culture of our community. As business owners, they are a fundamental component to Hoboken’s great benefits – benefits that not all cities in America can boast. As a business owner myself, I believe in the responsible progression of the local business market in Hoboken. It’s Hoboken’s small businesses that service our needs and improve our community. I am here because we need determined leadership in City Hall – conscientious leadership. We need motivated officials to focus on the true concerns of an ever-growing community. Concerns like the escalating rent prices on Washington Street that has forced many businesses to move as well as parking problems that have prevented first time customers from being repeat customers. We also need to provide affordable homes for families and moderate income workers and we have plans to do just that. I am with Mike Russo because his concerns are the concerns of the people. I am on this ticket to enhance Hoboken and to maintain a quality of life that is unmatchable. Last, Mr. Brian Keller I’ve only been living in Hoboken for a short while, but I know this city well enough to know when local government isn’t doing its job. I’m with Mike Russo because he is doing his job – because his commitment to Hoboken is unquestionable. As a city councilman, he has shown us his love of the community and his respect for local residents. I see the respect Hoboken residents have for this fine community – a kind of respect I currently do not see emanating from the mayor’s office. Local government can do better and that’s why I stand with Mike Russo. New Jersey has been a warm home to me for nine years. I graduated from Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ. After an exhausting search to find a place to live, I discovered the beautiful and historic City of Hoboken. I am now proud to call Hoboken my home. I am running with Mike Russo to bring trustworthy leadership to Hoboken – to enforce responsible spending practices. I want to inspire a local government that doesn’t burden the taxpayer with uncertainty but offers a fresh and relieving voice. I am also here to represent the promise of Hoboken’s youth. I pledge to ensure that the citizens of Hoboken maintain an active lifestyle through youth and adult programs. Hoboken needs better systems of recreation; more improved recreation programs and facilities that families can utilize – services that support community growth and human advancement. I feel it’s important to maintain a standard of living that benefits future generations. Over the next 8 weeks we will present our overall platform, not presenting political rhetoric but presenting real solutions to the problems facing Hoboken. We pledge to provide more parking, ensure smart development, increase affordable homes, lower the tax burden by controlling excessive spending, improve quality of life and finally provide true leadership and improve the government’s responsibilities to its residents. Our success will be due solely on the faith you have in our ability to represent you.
