The Sandra & Glenn Cunningham Foundation For Immediate Release: May 20, 2005 JERSEY CITY --The life of the late Mayor and State Senator Glenn D. Cunningham will be honored during a city-wide block party from 3:30 p .m. to 7:30 pan. on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the New Jersey Central Railroad Terminal in Liberty State Park. The block party, which will feature a DJ and food for those in attendance, is free and open to the public. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend the event. "This is a celebration of Glenn's life and of all his accomplishments," said the Mayor's widow, Sandra Bolden Cunningham. "We want to remember his laughter and his spirit of love and his sense of Joy, because that is who he was The life of Glenn D. Cunningham was remarkable, as he served as the first African-American U.S. Marshal for the State of New Jersey, was elected the first African-American Mayor of the City of Jersey City, and was the first sitting Mayor of Jersey City to also be elected State Senator. "Glenn always held the people of Jersey City close to his heart and that is why we are coming to the people to celebrate his life," Mrs. Cunningham said.
