Fulop is a Gulf War vet, but did anyone really expect guerrilla tactics in this race when a group of young men ran around Downtown handing out flyers with a reprint of a letter that appeared in The Jersey Journal where the writer urged Hispanic voters to keep the ward seat Hispanic. The flyer ran the headline: Hispanics against Fulop.

The guys got so good at slipping the flyers into mailboxes and under doors that they got carried away and put one in the slot at Maldonado's headquarters that had some workers in it. A chase ensued long enough to get a license plate number. There is a police report on the incident - but to what end?

It was only the beginning for Maldonado.

"I'm disappointed at the very negative campaign Steve Fulop wound up running Downtown," he said. "We had some guys come in to the office at 3 a.m. and found our locks glued. Luckily, we had a guy that was small enough to climb in a window."

Fulop denies he had anything to do with the flyers or any other alleged dirty tricks.

"(Maldonado) is out of his mind if he thinks we had anything to do with it," said the challenger. "It's from Junior's own camp. I would only hope he was not involved in it. Both camps have people who are on the fringe, who do crazy things, but certainly not in my campaign. If I find out who did the locks, he won't be part of my campaign anymore."
