JERSEY CITY, NJ -
On Friday, July 1st, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Jersey City Municipal Council will be sworn in to a new four-year term as Mayor of the City of Jersey City, New Jersey’s second largest municipality. The swearing in ceremony begins at 10 am, in New Jersey City University’s Margaret Williams Theatre. The Honorable Judge Shirley Tolentino will administer the Mayor’s Oath of Office.
In November 2004, Healy made a successful bid for Mayor, to serve out the unexpired term of the late Mayor Glenn Cunningham who passed away suddenly in May 2004, besting 10 other candidates in a special election. In the last May local elections, Mayor Healy was overwhelmingly re-elected by the people of Jersey City, capturing 75% of the votes cast.
The inauguration begins with a processional by the Hudson County Fire & Police Pipes & Drums, followed by “Jersey City – A Tapestry of Nations,” a presentation of flags to be led by Jersey City’s multi-ethnic community leaders. The Honorable Tom DeGise, Hudson County Executive, will provide greetings. The Master of Ceremonies will be the Honorable Robert Byrne, City Clerk.
A private Inaugural Breakfast will be held for the Mayor, the Municipal Council, and dignitaries prior to the inauguration. “Celebrating Jersey City Artists”, a private art exhibit, will take place during the breakfast at the Lemmerman Gallery. Jersey City artist have been scheduled to participate and have donated a piece from their collections. Artists include: Orlando Cuevas, Ron English, Jun’ichiro Ishida, Robert Kosinski, Andrzej Jerzy Lech, Ibrahima Ndoye, Duda Penteado, Andrea Raphael, Kit Sailer, Diane Van Court, and Erma Martin Yost.
