If you go buy a 150,000 car you will notice some things at that dealership. First they will not haggle wilth the price. In their eyes, if you are shopping there you must have the money to buy that car. Secondly, they will treat you with an extra smile or a comfortable style but they want you to understand that the biggest reason to buy that car is because it is a 150,000 car. When developers come to Jersey City, our biggest selling point is that our location, people, resouces and potential will be fully available to the company looking to build here. Too often the selling point is a political figure looking more to increase his/her war chest than to represent those who they need to represent. We should not be lowering our standards or our prices. If they are shopping here we should be looking to make money for our city and not necessarily trying to save them money. There is nothing wrong with abatements. They stir the economy and help us keep our taxes manageable. But what good is a "open space" if most of the citizens of this city cannot get pass the security guard at the front gate.
