First of all, the definition of "opportunist:" One who takes advantage of any opportunity to achieve an end, often with no regard for principles or consequences. (From dictionary.com.)

Secondly, what historically drew so many to America was the opportunity to make a life for themselves through initiative, self-reliance, and honest work, in our system of free enterprise. Free-riding off the taxpayers who actually work for a living is another matter entirely.
