Menendez re-elected chairman of House Democratic Caucus 11/17/2004, 6:08 p.m. ET WASHINGTON (AP) — New Jersey Rep. Robert Menendez was re-elected unanimously Wednesday as chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, the third most powerful party leadership post in the House of Representatives. Menendez said he would use the position to be an advocate for New Jersey in the 109th Congress. In an effort to help Democrats win back control of the House, Menendez said he has created a Democratic Task Force on Faith and Values in Politics to "provide members an opportunity to discuss how we more effectively communicate Democratic values." After losing back-to-back presidential elections, Democratic leaders are trying to figure out how to make the party more relevant to mainstream Americans. The House and Senate are also Republican-controlled. Also re-elected to House Democratic leadership roles were Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland.
