Assemblyman resigns amid accusations of financial impropriety 11/19/2004, 4:35 p.m. ET TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A Hudson County assemblyman who had served as an ethics watchdog resigned from office Friday after pleading guilty to diverting campaign funds for personal use. "Over a period of time, he drained his campaign coffers for his own personal use," Hagerty said. Impreveduto, 56, of Secaucus, is a Democrat who has been elected to nine terms. He used to head the Assembly's ethics panel. Impreveduto had been under state investigation for about a year, Hagerty said. Impreveduto pleaded guilty to misapplication of entrusted funds, specifically campaign money, and concealing campaign contributions. The amount of money Impreveduto is said to have diverted is still being investigated. Hagerty said Impreveduto's resignation, effective immediately, was part of the plea deal. He is barred from holding elected office in the future as part of the deal. No one answered the telephone at Impreveduto's legislative office on Friday afternoon.
