JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Newly elected Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy will perform the swearing in of his appointment of Robert Troy, as police chief during a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at 2 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 280 Grove Street.
The new chief, a 24-year veteran, will take over the helm of the state's second largest municipal police department. Troy will give an overview of his plans for the department that includes a new anti-crime task force.
Mayor Healy's appointment of Bob Troy is a testament to his campaign commitment to make the streets of Jersey City safer. Mr. Troy's proactive approach to policing includes expanding the number of police officers and increasing the interaction between the patrol officers and the neighborhoods in which they serve.
"Bob Troy has dedicated much of his professional life to various aspects of law enforcement through the department," Healy said. "I'm confident that he's not only prepared to be Chief, but also is eager to immediately address those issues that have had a negative impact on our residents' quality of life."
