FOR RELEASE: Immediate CONTACT: Jason Butkowski SENATOR DORIA SWORN IN TO SERVE 31ST LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT TRENTON - With his wife, Maribeth, and daughter, Margaret, by his side, Senator Joseph V. Doria was sworn in today by Senate President and Acting Governor Richard Codey to fill the remaining three years of an unexpired term for State Senator in the 31st Legislative District, which includes Bayonne and parts of Jersey City in Hudson County. "It's truly a blessing to be back serving the people of not only the 31st District, but the entire State of New Jersey, for another three years," said Senator Doria, D-Hudson. "Public service is a noble goal, and I intend to partake in my duties as State Senator with the nobility, humility and honor that the position demands." Senator Doria was selected in May to replace the late Senator Glenn D. Cunningham, D-Hudson, who passed suddenly of heart failure in the spring. Senator Doria said that, although he and Senator Cunningham were on different sides of a primary, they shared many of the same goals for the legislative district. "Senator Cunningham and I may have had political differences, but those should not be confused as policy differences," said Senator Doria. "Senator Cunningham was a tireless champion of his people in Jersey City, and I intend to honor his memory and continue to fight for those that he held so dear." In November, Senator Doria beat back a primary challenge to be elected to the remaining three years of Senator Cunningham's unexpired term. Though he had served as an Assemblyman from the 31st Legislative District since 1980, this is Senator Doria's first term serving in the State Senate. "I'd like to thank all the voters in Bayonne and Jersey City who've supported me through the years, including this election year, for their faith in electing me to serve them in the State Senate," said Senator Doria. "I promise that I will not let them down." ###
