LONEGAN FOR GOVERNOR www.loneganforgovernor.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 8, 2004 LONEGAN SAYS PA SHOULD NOT SUBSIDIZE NJ-NYC FERRY SERVICE BOGOTA -- Republican Gubernatorial candidate and Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan said today that the Port Authority should not subsidize Ferry Service to New York City. “The massive subsidies required to continue ferry service between New Jersey and New York City will eventually translate into higher tolls on motorists,” Lonegan said. “I oppose additional taxes on motorists to subside the few people using ferry service today now that the World Trade Center PATH station has reopened,” he said. “The $18 Million subsidy requested to continue Ferry Service will only increase in the future and is clearly not in the interests of taxpayers,” added Lonegan. “For too long, motorists have seen their tolls and gasoline taxes diverted to politically correct and economically inefficient forms of mass transit. Ferry service between New Jersey and New York City is a nice thing but we simply cannot afford it.” -30- Paid for by Lonegan for Governor, Inc., P.O. Box 280 Ridgewood, New Jersey 07451-0280
