There were some noticeable gains for Bush in urban areas. Kerry's vote in Jersey City (46,619) was nearly even with Gore's (45,909), but Bush won 4,121 more votes there than he did four years ago (when Schundler was the incumbent Mayor and GOP County Chairman.
