State-Backed Candidate Ends Bid for Ramapo College Post New York Times Published: December 31, 2004 TRENTON, Dec. 30 - State Senator Joseph V. Doria has officially abandoned his quest to become president of Ramapo College, state officials said Thursday, ending a clash that had pitted the school's board, faculty and student organizations against some of the state's most powerful elected Democratic officials. Several of Mr. Doria's allies in state government, including the acting governor, Richard J. Codey, had pushed for his candidacy as Ramapo's president during the past month, even though the school's search committee had omitted him from its list of semifinalists. . . .
