So says this article in today's paper. The New York Times JERSEY CITY -- A controversial 98-foot-high memorial commemorating the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which was donated by Russia and intended for the waterfront here, may instead find a home in another part of New Jersey or beyond, people familiar with the situation said last week. A letter from the council president in Jersey City, which was obtained by a lawyer for the artist, Zurab Tsereteli, indicated that the proposal was all but dead here.''We will be willing to have this transferred to another city where a similar location could be found,'' the council president, L. Harvey Smith, wrote in a letter dated Jan. 10. Who will end up with the memorial -- a bronze-plated slab featuring a cracked interior and a 40-foot-tall nickel teardrop -- is another question. According to sources who insisted on anonymity, Mr. Tsereteli recently looked at a site near the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne, as well as several other locations.
