"Mayor Cunningham to be Subject of Junior High
Students Journalism Projects"
Interview to focus on mayor's interest in Jersey City history
JERSEY CITY - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham will be interviewed by a
group of eighth grade journalism students at School 34 on Kennedy
Boulevard at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2004.
The students drafted questions for the mayor, with the focus being his
interest in Jersey City history. They will also ask him questions about his
general background and how he became the city's first African-American
mayor and the recently-elected state Senator for the 31 st Legislative District.
"It is important children learn about history and particularly the history of
their own country and their own city," Cunningham said. "We must also
show young people that if they have a goal or a dream, whether it is to be a
journalist or maybe someday a mayor, they can reach it if they are willing to
work hard and be dedicated."
