CLIFFWOOD, 4.7 miles (40 alt.), has a landmark known to all shore motorists, a colorful, imitation PIRATE SHIP (L), used as a real-estate office. This freebooting atmosphere ties up with local legend that Captain Kidd buried treasure at Cliffwood. Erosion has left the shore line of Kidd's time far out in the bay, thwarting search for his legendary cache. There is a small boardwalk and dancing casino on the beach.
