ELM, 32.1 miles (120 alt.), is a scattered village. On the southern outskirts (L) close to the road is a SILVER FOX FARM (open 9-5, May to
Dec.; free). More than 500 foxes, fed on a diet of cod liver oil, fresh
meat, vegetables, and bone meal, are raised yearly. The best pelts bring
from $500 to $1,000 each.
Pine woods replace the fruit farms along US 30 northwest of Elm. Inns
and roadhouses, many of them colorful, are frequent.
