DELAWARE, 70.6 miles (290 alt., 205 pop.), lies R. Of US 46 at the
bottom of the scarp on the bank of the Delaware. The town is a shopping
center for the surrounding country and has several stores, a post office, a
firehouse, and churches. Most of the buildings on the main street are brick,
but the residences on the tree-lined streets are all frame. Its most noticeable buildings from the highway are the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH and
the METHODIST CHURCH two white edifices with gold-tipped steeples,
almost identical in architecture.
US 46 bears L. at 71 miles.
At 71.3 miles, in the middle of a free bridge over the Delaware River,
US 46 crosses the Pennsylvania Line, 1.9 miles southeast of Portland, Pa.
