The King's Highway – New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, 16.9 miles (125 alt., 34,555 pop.) (see NEW BRUNSWICK).

Points of Interest: Rutgers University Campuses and Buildings, White House, Guest House, Joyce Kilmer Memorial (museum), and others.

State S 28 separates (L) from State 27 at the intersection of Albany and George Sts., New Brunswick. Straight ahead on Albany St. to French St.; straight ahead on French St.

Between New Brunswick and Franklin Park the highway runs through grassy fields, dotted with suburban homes, small chicken farms, and occasional roadside eating places.

At THREE MILE RUN, 21.6 miles, once stood a Dutch Reformed Church, built 1703, or earlier, by settlers from Inian's Ferry (New Brunswick). Coon dogs are brought here each year from the nearby country for the annual championship field trials.

At 23.3 miles (R) a bronze tablet marks the SITE OF THE FIRST COURTHOUSE OF SOMERSET COUNTY, built 1716 and burned 1737.
