I can go you one better. I just started working at the city, but I'm still like running a side business on the weekend. This guy looks me up and says that he wants me to do a job for him. I talk to the guy and tell him that I don't think that he needs any work done. He insists that he does. I tell him that he don't, that he's just throwing his money away. For another couple of minutes we go through this silly dance of him trying to convince me that he needs the work done and me telling him that he don't when he finally comes out with it. He wants to hand me money to get an introduction to somebody. I just tell him to hold on to the dough and just go to an open house or something. It's not just good enough to not be dishonest, you really got to be ready to run away from temptation. : I lived in Jersey City all my life, but I just guess that I'm dumb or something. Even after working for the City for a couple of years I was surprised when a supplier told me (with an innocent look on his face, yet) that before he put in a bid, he needed to know how much of a commission he had to figger in for me! : Christie, if your lurking, I gave the guy a lecture that I expected him to make money and I expected the people of Jersey City to get the best deal, but I wasn't taking a dime! : : Source the Quote : : "Jersey City is a political town and we have certain rules and regulations here, and since your company has never done any business with us before, I want to inform you as to what these rules and regulations are." : : "It's not a bribe, it's a gratuity." : : "I will opt for creative financing every time." : : "We know that Jersey City can be America's most livable city."
