: : :  One thing that was clear yesterday was that Ward E Jersey City Councilman Steve Fulop learned a lesson on how to bail someone out of jail - and that his title apparently earns him few privileges.

: : :  The first stop on the journey to bail out incarcerated tree lover Rikki Reich from jail was the Hudson County Courthouse on Newark Avenue in Jersey City, where Fulop hoped to get a status report, and was told that Reich's bail was $1,000 with no 10 percent cash option.

: what's really laughable is that fulop told a private citizen to tell the developer's workmen not to cut down the trees until he got there. those powers of delegation may work in the rarified world of a merrill lynch vp, but aren't worth squat at street level. if he was serious and had any really clout, he would have called the cops and had them stop the work. on the other hand, if he knew anything about government, he should have checked on the actual agreement and seen whose rights were being violated.
