I live two blocks from Central Avenue. What stores are you talking about? I can only think of four on the strip. There's where the bakery was next to the North Precinct, two just down the block from Garden State News (One was the location of the Heights Healy hq. As there never is a FOR RENT sign in the windows, I figger somebody is keeping those two empty with the idea of a rehab/new construction), and there's one up by Congress. There's a couple shops that don't seem to be keeping ends afloat and will probably give up the ghost -- the juice / hot dog joint on the corner of Sherman Pl. Individual business owners should go for a stroll on Bergenline Ave. in North Hudson, Broadway in Bayonne, and Washington in Hoboken to get some ideas on the sorts of businesses that people want. Basically, why do people keep opening 99 cent stores? Has anybody got rich at that?
