Crossing a small range of tree-crowned hills, the highway opens upon a
good view of the surrounding country. There is woodland and brush along
the foot of the hills (L), covering Hockhockson Swamp. The HOMINY
HILLS (R), a mile away, rise to a 308-foot peak on which stands a forest
ranger's station. There were many gristmills a century ago on the streams
flowing down from these hills. These have gone with the grain.
At 13.8 miles is the junction with State 33 (see Tour 20), which here
unites with State 34 for 1 mile. The highway passes southeast through an
area of overnight cabins and tourists' rests.
